Sarson ka Saag recipe

Sarson ka Saag, the mustered green recipe is the perfect combination for makki ki roti. Cook delicious Sarson ka Saag at home in simple steps. Sarso Ka Saag… How many of you started imagining it with Makki Ki Roti and butter? Sounds yummy, right? But do you know even you can cook this easily? Here are the simple steps to prepare Sarso Ka Saag at home. 

Ingredients for Sarso Ka Saag:

1 bunch of chopped mustard greens

1 bunch of chopped spinach

1 finely chopped small onion

2 finely chopped tomatoes

2-3 finely chopped green chilies

2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

1 tbsp cornmeal (makki ka atta)

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp red chili powder

Salt, you know how much you need.

2 tbsp oil

For Tadka (Tempering):

1 tbsp oil

1 tsp cumin seeds

2-3 chopped garlic cloves

Instructions:

In a pressure cooker, add chopped mustard greens, spinach, onions, tomatoes, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, cornmeal, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and oil. Add enough water to cover the vegetables.

Close the pressure cooker and cook on high heat for 4-5 whistles, then reduce the heat and cook for another 10-15 minutes.

Let the pressure release naturally, then open the cooker and mash the saag with a wooden spoon or an immersion blender until it’s smooth.

In a small pan, heat 1 tbsp oil and add cumin seeds and garlic. Let it cook for a minute or two until the garlic turns golden brown.

Pour the tadka over the saag and mix well.

Ingredients for Makki Ki Roti:

2 cups of maize flour (makki ka atta)

1 tsp salt

1 tsp ajwain (carom seeds)

1 tbsp ghee

Warm water, as needed

Instructions:

In a mixing bowl, add maize flour, salt, ajwain, and ghee. Mix well. Gradually add warm water to the mixture and knead it into a dough. Divide the dough into equal parts and roll out each part into a circular roti shape. Heat a tawa or a flat griddle over medium-high heat. Place the roti on the tawa and cook it for a minute or two on each side until it’s golden brown.

Now you can serve it hot with Sarson Ka Saag. Don’t forget to add butter on the top.
